Information for Prospective Faculty and Volunteers |
White Memorial Missionary College
White Memorial Missionary College received its Not-for-profit (501c3) designation by the IRS in early August 2005. We are currently in our organizational phase, seeking dedicated faculty who are committed to implementing Gods plan in education, so that our students can experience Gods ultimate standard in modern education.
WMMC has applied to the state of Tennessee to obtain approval for college status, which must be obtained before we can matriculate students.
General Education Faculty
WMMC is in need of faculty to teach cognate courses for nursing and other allied health professions. We are specifically seeking individuals with a minimum of a masters degree in the disciplines listed below.
-English
-Biology (A&P and Micro)
-Nutrition
-History
-Math
-Religion
-Psychology and Social Sciences
If you represent an alternate subject and would like to participate, we invite you to submit your interest, as we would like to maintain a file of interested faculty to be considered, for additional classes which we hope to offer in the near future.
All prospective faculty should read and agree to the WMMC Position Statement found at this link. It is intended that we will all approach WMMC, it's policies and our students from a reasonably unified perspective. Reviewing and agreeing this position statement provides each applicant the opportunity to reassess whether their philosophies are consistent with those of WMMC
Respiratory Therapy Chair
We are accepting applications for the Chair position of the Respiratory Therapy department. Applicant must be an RRT and have a minimum of BS degree as required by COARC. Respiratory Therapy is a major that is currently being delivered successfully by several colleges via distance education. The authorizing body, COARC, is eager to assist us with setting up a program as soon as WMMC is either affiliated with another fully accredited college, or once we obtain our own accreditation.
Nursing
WMMCs goal is to provide the nations first distance-based LPN program. However, it is believed that the vast majority of students will desire to progress on to the RN level. Once our LPN program is stable and we have demonstrated competence and academic excellence to the necessary governing bodies, it is our plan to progress on to a 1+1 program, where we will deliver the entire ADN program by distance the first year being LPN, the second year being the ADN level.
We are currently accepting applications for MSN prepared nurse educators. We will need a number of applicants on file, as it is believed that there will be a tremendous demand for this program, once matriculation begins. Please don't be shy. Send your CV/resume to the below e-mail address. We are very eager to discuss any questions you may have.
Please contact our President Dr. Steffens (president@wmmc.info) for more information and to discuss how you may participate in this innovative program.
Please note: because a number of people have questioned the delivery method, it needs to be understood that the program didactics will be delivered by distance and the clinical portion will be via the conventional hospital venue. We are negotiating with the state board of nursing, to allow our students to take their clinical labs at a hospital near where they reside in their respective states.
The Excelsior Model of Distance Nursing Education
Excelsior College of Albany, NY (the largest nursing program in the USA) has already proven that professional Nursing education can successfully be delivered by distance. Many medical schools already allow some degree of distance education into their curriculum, by not requiring class attendance. It has been demonstrated that students can appropriately assimilate the necessary information at home, read the transcribed class notes, study the text, and do well on the exams.
Spirit of Prophecy Thought Leaders and Experienced Academic Administrators Needed
WMMC is seeking Spirit of Prophesy and educational thought leaders as well as experienced academic administrators to provide volunteer technical consultation. At this time of initial organization, there is a tremendous need for consulting with a "multitude of counsellors" (Proverbs 11:14); thus, if you have an interest in participating please don't hesitate to contact us.
Our goal is to provide a diverse range of majors to our students, and we wish to explore a variety of options. If you are interested in participation in WMMC's academics, or partnering as a thought leader, we would be very interested to speak with you, regardless of your subject discipline. Email president@wmmc.info, and we will be happy to discuss how you may play a part in this important venture aimed at providing an excellent, solidly Seventh-day Adventist education according to the Lord's plan, as outlined in the Spirit of Prophecy, while substantially reducing our student's college expenses.
CLEP focus for General Education requirements
Due to the fact that WMMC is not yet accredited, we will be focusing on CLEP (see www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html) and other similar Credit by Exam models (see www.excelsior.edu), which will allow our students to graduate with as many credits as possible that will be fully accepted by most other institutions of higher education.
In a pure Credit by Exam model, students take their classes without any faculty involvement whatsoever. WMMC will improve upon their method by providing subject-specific faculty, to coach and provide direction and "academic pearls" to our students, making their Credit by Exam experience much more focused, enjoyable, and efficient. WMMC is actively pursuing full accreditation, however the process is lengthy and at least 3-4 yearsusually requires before this can be obtained. Thus in the interim, Credit by Exam classes will provide credits that are nationally recognized and fully transferable to most other colleges and universities within the United States.
Faculty Needed & Remuneration
Once the school is approved by the state, and once matriculation begins, faculty having students taking their classes, can expect competitive hourly/annual pay consistent with the conventional denominational pay scale. Bear in mind that our goal is to begin with a Credit-by-exam (CLEP) model of education, in which a student studies a recommended text, then once thoroughly prepared, takes a specific well- designed exam, and then receives credit, based on their score from that single exam. Other similar models are also popular, and may be utilized as appropriate to meet the individual student’s needs.
Based on this model of education, there is significantly less instructor involvement in the individual student?s didactics. WMMC will need an individual department chair for each major, along with the necessary supportive staff, thus enabling the optimal student/faculty ratio leading to minimal tuition. Any additional/supportive faculty needed, will be on a contract/PRN basis, thus minimizing WMMC?s financial burden.
Other models of education will also be explored in the near future so that WMMC will be able to meet the broader needs of a more diverse student population. Our ultimate objective is to provide varied means of course delivery in addition to credit-by-exam, such as a more conventional streaming video lecture model of classroom presentation. The students tuition charge will be based on the particular educational delivery mode they choose.
Among the excellent advantages offered to faculty by this method of education is the fact that their responsibilities can be fulfilled from home. Candidates will need to be self-motivated, well organized, disciplined and creatively visionary. Superior communication skills are essential. Candidates will need to be comfortable with modern electronic technology i.e. computer, internet, PDAs, software, to name a few, as these modalities will be central to our distance-based curriculum.
Prospective candidates must have an appreciation for the counsel with which God has blessed our denomination, as found in the Spirit of Prophecy. WMMC is conceived on the premise that God has many pearls of happiness with which He longs to bless educators and students, and that these can only be realized by fully submitting to His plan in education.
