Welcome to White Memorial
Missionary College.
White Memorial Missionary College (WMMC)
represents a consortium of educators and individuals
who are dedicated to the task of assisting families
and students who wish to obtain a distance based,
Seventh-day Adventist college education at home.
It is our purpose to provide this service in a
manner that is designed according to God's plan.
We want to emphasize that this is a Church-supporting
ministry, committed to promoting the mission of
our denomination's fundamental principals of education,
and encouraging and upholding our existing colleges
and universities in their field of service.
The purpose for which WMMC is being organized,
is to meet important and specific needs of certain
students and families. The needs we are attempting
to meet include the need to obtain an Adventist
education with a limited family budget, and the
aspiration of some, for differing reasons, to
obtain a college education at home.
The cost of a campus-based private college education
can leave many families struggling. Tuition rates
continue to climb at most private and public schools.
At present, private education expenses are unaffordable
for many students, and for many more, they are
enslaved in a maze of debt for decades after graduation.
All too many couples have no choice but to both
work full time, committing their children to an
institutionalized day-care setting, just so that
the parents can survive financially, while trying
to recover from a deluge of educational debt.
WMMC is addressing this issue by our commitment
to the science of tuition minimization. WMMC is
in its infancy, and in the midst of many customary
startup expenses, but we want to emphasize that
we are devoted to exploring every option for reducing
the tuition burden of families, and as such, we
are developing some exceptional and progressive
plans that will do just that.
Many people are familiar with the concept of the
CLEP model of obtaining college credit. Historically,
gifted high-school students could take a college
CLEP exam for a subject in which they had particular
expertise. Upon successful completion of the exam,
they were given equivalent college credit. This
was a fast and inexpensive way of completing a
course.
While the CLEP approach was useful for the "intellectual
elite", who already knew the material, the majority
of students had to attend class three hours a
week for a full semester to complete the same
3 credit hour class, while spending more on tuition.
Few students realized that anyone could take a
CLEP exam, if they were willing to obtain a review
book, study the material for a few weeks, and
then take the exam, thus avoiding many expensive
and time-consuming hours in class.
The last 20 plus years has experienced unprecedented
growth in the Homeschool phenomena. Families and
students are learning the benefits and the talent
of learning at home. Most of these students have
developed the art of self-study, realizing that
it is not necessary to have a teacher verbally
repeating everything that is plainly printed in
their book, which they are able to study and learn
themselves, at their own pace.
In an institutional setting, many students only
attend class because attendance is required or
because they are hoping to obtain information
that will be on the instructor's exam. WMMC is
founded on the principal that students can learn
successfully at home from reading a book with
a well-written study guide - accomplishing the
same objective as the traditional method of class
attendance. The study guide can be thought of
as the lecture in print, rather than spoken.
With the advent of the internet, many colleges
have begun to offer courses that can be taken
at home. A simple internet search will produce
a multitude of accredited distance courses and
degrees that are being offered by a number of
colleges and universities. So why the need for
WMMC? WMMC is being established to provide a Christ-centered,
distinctively Seventh-day Adventist, affordable
distance-based college education. God has blessed
the Seventh-day Adventist church with a wealth
of information about education and the immense
blessings to be realized by following His plan.
WMMC is devoted to promoting and providing these
blessings to our students and families. It is
our fervent desire to prepare our students to
serve the Lord through their profession - thus
our motto - To Learn To Serve.
Please peruse this site and write us a note about
any questions you may have. We look forward to
assisting you in any way we can.
